BIO: Andy Dass is an artist from Montreal, whose love for Saturday Morning cartoons paved the way for his artistic journey. Fueled by a desire to create his own characters and stories, he found further inspiration in Graffiti, Street Art, and Lowbrow art movements. These influences led him to develop his unique style of "Urban Cartoon Art". His work is a fusion of these diverse influences, resulting in playful, imaginative, and visually striking pieces. Andy's art aims to capture the imaginative wonder of his childhood while also exploring the satirical, humorous, and thought provoking nature of everyday life. His work has been exhibited in numerous shows and galleries, he has also created installations, murals, character designs for apps, and continues to collaborate with non profit organization Fashion Fights Cancer.
Artistic Statement: “ My cartoon themed paintings, are a celebration of nostalgia and joy. Drawing inspiration from classic cartoons, Street art and Graffiti. I aim to capture the whimsy and fun that is sometimes neglected in our busy lives. By creating pieces that evoke a sense of childhood wonder and happiness, I hope to transport viewers back to a simpler time, and remind them of the power of imagination and creativity. The characters in my work are oftentimes portrayed as curious, overly expressive, and sometimes broken. Although these characters are meant to portray joy, I want them to be relatable, and these blemishes give the otherwise clean looking characters a human touch. I paint to tell stories, with each of the characters in my works centred around a theme. Usually the theme is expressed in a humorous way, even if the theme is more sombre in tone. Ultimately my goal is to remind people of the joys of their past youth, by creating original paintings that balance both nostalgia with modern sensibilities. “
